*******PFLAG Gold Beach/Curry County Chapter on Hiatus*******

Tamie and I made a difficult decision which was shared with those at last week’s January 14 Gold Beach meeting. We had hoped to tell all of you in person. PFLAG Gold Beach/Curry County will go on hiatus for the first quarter of 2015. There will be no chapter meetings or activities during January, February, or March of 2015. We will reevaluate in mid-March regarding the next quarter.

March 12, 2014 We will watch the film “Gen Silent.”Gen Silent asks six LGBT seniors if they will hide their lives to survive. March 25, 2014  Lori Stanton from the Alzheimer’s Association will make a presentation.

April 9, 2014     Kids of LGBT Parents – Learn what the children think.  Find out more about how some families are formed.  As always, please join us in a welcoming, safe atmosphere.  We learn and we laugh…a lot!

April 22, 2014      LGBT Kids & Youth – Learn more about the experience of today’s LGBT youth.  We may have youth from the local high school GSA’s…Stay posted!

Our May topic seeks to learn more about being inclusive and supportive of our trans* members.

May 14, 2014   Get an introduction to transgender issues and concerns.

May 27, 2014  Youth from a Crescent City, CA program called “Gender Talk” will make a presentation.  We’ll learn more about them and the program.

June 11, 2014     LGBT History – Learn more about the beauty and diversity of LGBTQI folks in history.

June 24, 2014    Our Own Pride Celebration!!  Cake to celebrate…well, us!

July 9, 2014   Join us in a welcoming atmosphere for education, friendship, and fun.  We’ll be in Gold Beach.

July 22, 2014  Our focus will be on mental health issues within the LGBT community.  Hope to see you in Brookings!

August 13, 2014  Join us to learn about and celebrate the Allies who support the LGBTQI community.

August 26, 2014  Sue Krayer from the Curry Health Network will join us.  We’ll learn about the support this agency has to offer.

September 10, 2014  Hate Crimes.  Learn what constitutes a hate crime against sexual minorities.  Find out what you can do.

September 23, 2014  Workplace Rights, including a section on coming out at work.

October 28, 2014   Sharing our coming out stories, struggles, and triumphs.

November 12, 2014   The holidays can be a stressful time for LGBTQI people or families with LGBTQI members, but there are several strategies that you can use to help reduce stress and create a happy holiday this year.  We’ll also consider the question, “Is it Christian to Reject Gay Partners?”
